The Healing Ritual
For optimal healing of your tattoo, follow these guidelines carefully.
I. The Cleansing
- Hand Washing: Wash hands with Unscented Antibacterial hand soap.
- Tattoo Cleaning: Proceed to wash the tattoo in Lukewarm water with the same soap and let Air Dry. Do not use towels or anything else to dry.
- Overwashing: It is best to not over wash the tattoo, but if the spot does get soiled in any manner it is advised. Reapply ointment after wash and dry.
II. The Anointing
- Ointment Application: Apply Ointment (we recommend Aquaphor or A&D ointment) which should be applied in very Thin Coats, and only as the tattoo dries throughout the day, likely 2-3 times a day normally.
III. The Forbidden
- Water & Perfumes: Be avoidant of submerging the tattoo under water (no swimming or bathing for 2 weeks) and also of anything with perfumes like shampoo/conditioner or scented soaps.
- Friction & Lint: While healing the spot should not have friction or rubbing (wrist bracelets, cuffs, straps, etc) and you should also keep it free of any linty materials like wool.
IV. The Metamorphosis
- Healing Process: After a few days it is common for the spot to get itchy and peel. Do not pick or scratch the tattoo. Let the flakes fall off on their own to not pull the under layers with the retaining ink out.
- Free Touch-Ups: Generally free touch ups are offered as long as it's not a questionable spot like your hands, feet, neck, or lower stomach.
